Water contamination in fluids can cause significant problems to both lubricant condition and rotating equipment components such as gears and bearings. These problems include additive depletion, oil oxidation, component corrosion, reduced lubricating thickness, microbial growth, and reduction in dielectric strength. Water sensors incorporate a probe that can be directly immersed into most oils to monitor dissolved water content and temperature.
MSC has a variety of water sensors available depending on your application and need.
Capacitive Sensor Principle:
The electrical resistance of the sensing polymer changes as the relative humidity in the fluid changes. This change in resistance is measured and converted to a 4-20 ma signal that can be read and trended on a PLC display as percent saturation up to 100%.
